Many children in Pakistan must work to top up the family income

Poverty levels in Pakistan have forced many children to work to top up the family income. Otherwise there is not enough cash to meet their basic needs.

Unicef says, just over a half of the nineteen million children of primary school age in Pakistan are actually enrolled at school. For those who are at school the conditions can be harsh.

Pakistan now has the third highest level of children labor in the world.

Pakistan now has the third highest level of children labor in the world. Some local governments are trying to stop firms employing children and a central government is working on a compulsory education program children aged 5 to 16.
